My Projects

First batch: Windriver Black Bear Brown Ale.

Bottled, oh, Sept or Oct 2008. Good flavor, got better w/ time. Single stage fermentation.

Batch 2, Brewer’s Best California Imperial Pale Ale. Nice and hoppy. Single fermentation — think it would’ve benefitted from a secondary prior to bottling. Bottled late 2008.

Batch 3 – Red ale from local startup, Oxbow brewing – appears to now be defunct. Secondary fermentation, then bottled 3/28/09. We’ll see how it ages. Used malt for priming rather than sugar. 1.045 OG, then after fermentation, 1.012.

Batch 4: Northern Brewer dry Irish Stout. 1.050 OG, then after primary, 1.012 or so. Moved to secondary 3/28/09. added extra malt during boil, as well as a bit of molasses, and steeped some coffee grains — just a tad.

Yes.  How mundane can you get?

In the wake of Earth Day, the topic of toilet paper made from recycled paper waste has come up.

I’m not willing to go this far:

Found a guide comparing different products on the market today.

Still trying to figure out what’s the best bang for the buck, as I believe they tend to be a bit more expensive than the Costco megapacks of regular tissue. Haven’t done the math/research yet, but I’m working on it.

Also found this discussion (which led me to the above link):

Okay, back to work.

Ah, Beetles. Here’s my daily driver — 1959 Volkswagen Type 1, photo taken the day I picked it up in Dallas, TX, 2.5 years ago. My biggest ebay purchase to date.
