Best Bloody Marys and Burgers in Kansas City

are to be found at the Westport Flea Market Bar and Grill on Saturdays. The Bloody Marys are either $3.00 or $3.50 all day long both Sat and Sun, and the bartender who works on Saturday mixes some good ones, with a splash of Guinness to top it off (I haven’t tried the Sunday bartender’s mix). And the burgers, ah, the burgers — no frills, fried on a grill, and simply perfectly done.

Once this place goes smoke free when KC’s smoking ban kicks in, it will be the shizzle!*

Yes, Topeka is a tad backwards

Like we didn’t know that already.  Apparently this photo was too hot for the Topeka’s Sam’s Club to process:

I will now point out that Sam’s sells piles of R-rated movies filled with naked ladies (which obviously, is fine with me–until you treat my adorable pinup pictures like a freaking donkey show), and that this bikini is more modestly proportioned than every single junior bikini currently on sale at Wal-Mart. So do they refuse to print the vacation pictures of all the teenage girls wearing their 3rd world manufactured bikinis on family vacations? I think not.

 

Renovating downtown KCMO — Empire Theater

Empire to transform from eyesore to eye-catcher

“It was quite a mess,” said Guy Gingrich, senior project manager for Kingston Environmental Services. “We found the building on the inside had been completely falling apart and asbestos was everywhere.”

Now, the theater is poised to be reborn as a six-screen, digital movie complex where patrons will be able to dine before enjoying their film with wine. It is also getting back its original name, the Mainstreet Theatre.

Kansas City-based AMC Entertainment and The Cordish Co. of Baltimore are reviving the theater’s role as a cornerstone of downtown entertainment. It is scheduled to reopen in early 2008, following a $25 million renovation.
